It doesn’t matter if you live in Scottsville or Scotland, the first day of school can be very long—as these pictures Lucie’s mom recently shared with the world illustrate. As students, teachers, and parents prepare for another year, (almost) everyone is excited about the learning ahead! Which makes it a good time to reflect on what we’ve learned over the summer leading up to this next term.

Some students were at camps while their teachers focused on professional development. Here at CNE we analyzed the results of our 2019 Survey of Nonprofits to hear from our member organizations and other nonprofits about what kinds of resources help them increase impact in their communities.

We also enhanced our Board Academy offerings to be more welcoming and accessible by adding:

  • Orientation to Board Service Workshop — a session to provide every participant with a foundation to on which to grow for the remainder of the program
  • Difficult Conversations — a series of three 2-hour workshops will help participants hone the skills needed to engage fruitfully on tough topics, especially in relation to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Childcare subsidies — scholarship recipients can now apply for an additional $200 discount on tuition to help offset the cost of childcare related to attending Board Academy’s evening sessions
If you are interested in learning more about Board Academy, please join us on Friday, September 20 from 8:30 — 9:30 a.m. for a Board Academy Information Session led by Andrew Robinson. We will also offer a Board Orientation Workshop, hosted by Cristine Nardi on Wednesday, October 2 from 8 a.m. — 12p.m. This is for folks who may not the have the time to devote to the full Board Academy curriculum, but would like an intensive session on board member roles and responsibilities.

As the new school year progresses, we will continue to learn about how we can support nonprofits and their partners working to collaborate for social impact, engage with stakeholders for more equitable communities, and contribute to a financially healthy nonprofit sector.

We hope your school year is off to a great start!
