The foundation is dedicated to protecting the integrity of natural ecosystems and the health of human communities through its grant making programs. WestWind provides grants to environmental nonprofit organizations that work both domestically and internationally. The foundation also supports nonprofits that promote reproductive health and rights globally, with a particular emphasis on the Latin American and Caribbean region. In 2009, the foundation awarded more than $3.2 million in grants. About the position: The employee will perform administrative and program-related operations for the foundation. These include: • Managing the foundation’s grant processing, database, correspondence and docket preparation; • Working with grantees on the grant-making process, including review of potential grantee organizations and developing realistic grant proposals that are within the grantee's capacity and meet the foundation’s funding priorities; • Monitoring trends, policy, issues and organizations within the foundation’s focus areas including participating in meetings and some funder events; • Working with the foundation’s trustees to develop, define and evaluate the strategies and goals of the foundation’s programs. Desired background and experience: An undergraduate degree is required. Successful candidates will possess: • Strong project management skills including the ability to effectively manage time, meet multiple competing deadlines, quickly develop written materials and manage budgets; • Strong interpersonal, written and spoken communications skills; • A professional demeanor with a proven ability to build collaborative relationships; • The ability to work independently and be strongly self-motivated; • Some experience and demonstrated commitment in at least one of the foundation’s two program areas and/or experience in non-profit management is preferred; • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Schedule and Salary information: This part time position is based in Charlottesville, Virginia. The flexible schedule should require approximately 32/week during the fall and spring, which corresponds with the docket review for the foundation's two major program areas. During summer and mid-winter, time requirements are minimal. Salary is commensurate with experience.
