Program Planning/Evaluation

Date:
May 21, 9 am - 12 noon
Location: Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, 145 Ednam Drive
Speaker:
Gretchen Ellis, Director, Commission on Children & Families

Logic models, inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes… Since 2002, the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and the United Way- Thomas Jefferson Area have used a common outcome measurement based application process for human service non-profits.  Outcome measurement is the regular, systematic measuring of progress toward intended outcomes in order to increase the effectiveness of programs and services, and communicate the value of those programs and services.  Increasingly, funders are using outcome measurement as a part of funding decision. This training will provide a basic overview of underlying philosophy of outcome measurement as an evaluation tool, will examine the components of an effective outcome plan, will demonstrate development of a logic model, and will discuss identifying effective indicators.

Gretchen Ellis is the Director of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families and has been involved with the two localities’ implementation of outcome measurement based non-profit funding since the pilot phase in 2001.  She and her staff provide training and technical assistance to human service agencies seeking local government funding
