SCORE - The Service Core of Retired Executives: A nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth, and success of small business nationwide.  We have more than 20 counselors in our chapter. We provide FREE consulting services to both start-up and existing small businesses in our central Virginia service area which consists of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Culpeper, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange counties

HUMAN SERVICES INVESTMENTS for the Charlottesville/Albemarle Community (FY 2004-2005):  Prepared by the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families this report is the first-ever comprehensive community report consolidating data about local, state, federal and private investments during the fiscal year 2004-2005, totaling $486,050,228!  

BEAVOLUNTEER: A searchable database of opportunities in our community maintained by the United Way, Thomas Jefferson Area.  An agency may post volunteer openings and individuals can search for a position that will interest them.

MADISON HOUSE:  Madison House serves as the student volunteer center at the University of Virginia. We coordinate volunteers, develop leaders, build community partnerships and promote lifelong volunteer service. Madison House organizes service programs to address the needs of the community as well as the educational and personal growth objectives of students.

UNIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:  Each semester, UIP places about 250 University of Virginia undergraduate student interns with 175 sponsors in business, government and non-profit in the Charlottesville area.  The Internship Program can provide your organization with bright and energetic 4th-year students looking to gain "real-world experience."  Visit the web site to find out how you can become a sponsor and see experiential learning in action. CHARLOTTESVILLE/ALBEMARLE COMMISSION ON CHILDREN & FAMILIES:  The Commission, a 28-member planning and advisory body to the City of Charlottesville and County of Albemarle, works to improve outcomes for children and their families.  This organization compiles valuable information/statistics and makes them available to the public, such as the annual report Stepping Stones that takes the "temperature" of our children's needs.

2006 STEPPING STONES:  Stepping Stones includes data to identify positive and negative trends on a growing percentage of the 62 indicators chosen to measure child and family well-being. Stepping Stones is intended to provide accurate data, stimulate community dialogue and action regarding regional trends in the Charlottesville/Albemarle community.

2020 COMMUNITY PLAN ON AGING for the Thomas Jefferson Planning District: The 2020 Community Plan on Aging represents a major effort by citizens, providers and planners to make our community a great place to age.  The 2020 Community Plan on Aging represents a beginning step in a dynamic and ongoing process. This document outlines general recommendations for making this an age-friendly community for all ages.

MONTICELLO AVENUE:  Monticello Avenue is a community network serving Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

CJ NETWORK: Creciendo Juntos - Growing Together:  An inter-agency organization created to address issues related to the Latino/Hispanic Community in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. Partcipate in meetings, read publications, find resources, and view upcoming events.

UVA OFFICE OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS:  This office builds bridges between the University and the community by engaging in numerous outreach efforts, including those with neighborhood associations, nonprofit organizations, schools, and residents.

BGN VIRGINIA LIFE AND RESOURCES: Contains Virginia-related business resources from the Business Growth Network. The mission of BGN is to promote the free exchange of entrepreneurial best practices and innovation among local and regional groups.

THE BRIDGESPAN GROUP: The Bridgespan Group is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization applying leading-edge management strategies, tools and talent to help other nonprofits and foundations achieve greater social impact.

EFFECTIVE PRACTICES: The Corporation for National and Community Services publishes practitioner guides on a wide range of subjects including Education, Program Management, Human Needs, Environment, Volunteer Management, and Public Safety.

ARNOVA - Assoc. for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action: ARNOVA brings together theoretical and applied interests, helping scholars gain insight into the day-to-day concerns of third-sector organizations, while providing nonprofit professionals with research they can use to improve the quality of life for citizens and communities. Principal activities include an annual conference, publications, electronic discussions and special interest groups.

FACTS AND FIGURES FROM THE NONPROFIT ALMANAC 2007:  The nonprofit sector accounts for 5.2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and 8.3 percent of wages and salaries paid in the United States.  In 2005, individuals, corporations, and foundations gave $260 billion in charitable contributions to nonprofits and 29 percent of Americans volunteered through a formal organization.  Read on.

ASSOCIATION OF SMALL FOUNDATIONS:  The Association of Small Foundations (ASF) is a membership organization of 3,000 foundations with few or no staff. They provide members with peer learning opportunities, targeted resources, and a collective voice in and beyond the philanthropic community.

GUIDESTAR:  GuideStar is the leader in providing comprehensive data on more than 1.5 million nonprofit organizations. The information they provide contains searchable data from IRS Forms 990 and the IRS Business Master File, including comprehensive facts on employee compensation and grant activity.

THE FOUNDATION CENTER:  The Foundation Center's mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy.  The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants

THE CHARITY CHANNEL:  The Charity Channel community is comprised of nonprofit sector professionals from around the world who volunteer their time, advice, information, tips and articles for the benefit of the community

NATIONAL CENTER FOR CHARITABLE STATISTICS: The National Center for Charitable Statistics is the national clearinghouse of data on the nonprofit sector in the United States. NCCS is a program of the Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy (CNP) at the Urban Institute.

CHARITY NAVIGATOR:  Charity Navigator works to guide intelligent giving. We help charitable givers make intelligent giving decisions by providing information on over five thousand charities and by evaluating the financial health of each of these charities.

GOODSEARCH:  GoodSearch is an Internet search engine with a simple concept and unique social mission. The site is powered by Yahoo!, so you'll get the same quality search results that you're used to. What's unique is that they have developed a way to direct money to your charity or school with every click.

IDEALIST.ORG:  Idealist is one of the leading sites for nonprofit information and resources.

BUSINESS GROWTH NETWORK BLOG: A constantly updating resource containing information on best practices, collaboration, news, and tools for business growth.

CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE:  This resource center provides tools and trainings for volunteer and service programs.  An easily searchable site provides hands-on tools and ideas.
