    HELPFUL HINTS

Use them or lose them...The Volunteer Impact Study by Deloitte & Touche and the Points of Light Foundation found that while 77% of nonprofit leaders felt that skilled volunteers could greatly help their organization, only 12% of those managers put those skills to work.  For their part, only 19% of volunteers felt that their skills were being put to work. (Nonprofit World, Vol. 24, Number 5)

How valuable is volunteer time?  Does your organization keep track of these valuable hours.  According to the Virginia Employment Commission, the 2006 Virginia Average Hourly Value of Volunteer Time is $18.76.  Contact VEC by phone at (804)786-8223 for more information.  According to the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the value of theses services can be used for internal and external purposes under specific circumstances (visit http://www.fasb.org/pdf/fas116.pdf)
