For those confined to a nursing home bed a visit from a JABA Volunteer, Long-term Care Ombudsman can mean the difference between distress for hours on end, and hope. JABA is now recruiting volunteers for this demanding and rewarding work. Becoming a JABA Volunteer Ombudsman requires participation in a 20-hour training program and a minimum commitment of four hours of per week. The next training program takes place April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at JABA, 674 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville.

FOCUS Women's Resource Center is seeking volunteers for the following caategories: Resource Mothers to mentor pregnant and parenting teens enrolled in our Pregnant and Parenting Teen Program. Resource mothers make weekly home visits to the teens to teach them how to take care of themselves and their families providing emotional support when needed, and linking them to needed health and social services. Training is provided. Data Entry Clerk to enter participant data into an automated system with accuracy and timeliness.

The FOCUS FLEA supports FOCUS Women's Resource Center by selling new clothing and accessories from J.Jill, along with household items and gently used clothing at very reasonable prices. The FLEA is open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. We rely on volunteers to run the cash register, provide customer service, organize the merchandise, and process donations. C4K Volunteer Administrative Intern: This is an unpaid internship that will provide an excellent opportunity to learn or use administrative skills while being a part of an organization that helps provide exceptional mentoring and learning opportunities to local at-risk youth. The Habitat Store supports Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville by selling new and salvaged building materials and home furnishings to the public at discount prices. All proceeds contribute to the construction of new Habitat homes locally. The Store is open Monday-Friday 10-6 and Saturday 9-5 and we rely on volunteers to keep the doors open. Volunteers run the cash register, provide customer service, maintain and clean the Store, process donations, organize our diverse merchandise, recycle and assist with special events. The Commission on Children and Families is looking for parents to help as liaisons in administering two programs under the administration of the Comprehensive Services Act for At-Risk Children and Families. The two programs are the Family Assessment and Planning Team and Children in Need of Supervision/Services Team, both of which are looking for parents to serve as support for parents of children referred to the teams for case planning and/or services. The role of the parent representative includes assisting parents with understanding the team staffing process, helping parents be at ease prior to, during, and after the staffing process. Use them or lose them...The Volunteer Impact Study by Deloitte & Touche and the Points of Light Foundation found that while 77% of nonprofit leaders felt that skilled volunteers could greatly help their organization, only 12% of those managers put those skills to work. For their part, only 19% of volunteers felt that their skills were being put to work. (Nonprofit World, Vol. 24, Number 5)
How valuable is volunteer time? Does your organization keep track of these valuable hours.
