C4K is about computers and so much more. C4K’s mission is to empower youth from low-income communities in Charlottesville by bringing together technology and imagination through supportive mentoring, youth-driven programming, and skill building for life success. We provide a creative and safe out-of-school learning environment where middle and high school youth work with volunteer mentors and staff to have fun, make STEAM projects, and build college and work readiness skills.  At C4K young people explore their own ideas, build skills, and gain confidence in themselves through positive relationships, the mastery of technology, and the opportunity to get a free laptop with support. Position
The Program Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of C4K’s one-to-one mentoring program and The Clubhouse@C4K program, including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, evaluating and controlling program activities.

Job Duties

Responsibilities

Plan the program

  • Plan the delivery of the overall program and its activities in accordance with the mission and goals of C4K
  • Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program
  • Develop an annual budget and operating plan to support programming
  • Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement
  • Develop funding proposals for the program to ensure the continuous delivery of services

Organize the program

  • Evaluate and strengthen policies and procedures for current  programs
  • Ensure that program activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization
  • Develop  forms and records to document program activities
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key community stakeholders

 


Staff the program

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview and select well-qualified program staff
  • Establish and implement a performance management process for all program staff
  • Collaborate with staff to manage volunteers and interns.

Lead the program

  • Ensure all staff members receive orientation and appropriate training
  • Supervise program staff by providing direction, input, and feedback
  • Ensure C4K members voices are part of all programming decisions
  • Communicate with members and other stakeholders to gain community support for the program and to solicit input to improve the program
  • Cultivate existing relationships with vendors, community groups, companies and schools with the goal of ensuring sufficient resources and access to services
  • Identify and coordinate student classes, seminars, and camps
  • Plan annual graduation ceremony and community showcases
  • Provide occasional coverage in studios.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure youth stories are told effectively.

Control the program

  • Report out on program for management and funders
  • Collaborate with communications and fundraising staff to ensure grants and other materials align with program goals and outcomes
  • Ensure that the program operates  within the approved budget
  • Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework

Report evaluation findings to the Executive Director and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with a passion for educating youth to grow and further develop a proven one-to-one and group mentoring program. The successful candidate will oversee C4K’s award-winning programs, partner with the ED and work collaboratively with a small but effective team. Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum of a BA/BS
  • Background in education essential.
  • Experience with mentoring programs preferred.
  • Flexibility to work regular evenings.
  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
  • Proficient with and champion of technology and STEAM education.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for youth development and Computers4Kids’ mission

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday – some evening work required, during the school year. Occasional weekends.
