Description

As the official philanthropic partner of Shenandoah National Park, the Trust invests its philanthropic dollars in park programs and initiatives to ensure Shenandoah National Park remains a crown jewel of the National Park Service and national treasure for all to enjoy for generations to come.

The Trust seeks an Executive Director that can lead the organization and grow it. The ideal candidate will have a degree, 5+ years of non-profit management experience, and demonstrated fundraising skills.

Job Duties

The Executive Director (ED) works closely with the Board of Trustees to craft and adapt the strategy to achieve increased impact, including raising sufficient funds to support the organization’s mission.

  • Drive key results in fundraising
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors and key leaders of prospective corporate partners
  • Leverage personal and professional contacts and relationships into fundraising opportunities
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy in the organization, both at the staff and board level.
  • Provide strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation
  • Partner with the Board of Trustees to craft organizational goals and develop strategies to ensure that they are achieved
  • Build and lead high-performance teams, ensuring all teams are aligned and collaborating to achieve organizational results
  • Maintain accountability for the operation and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Trustees
  • Assess organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing
  • Directly supervise staff and establish individual employee goals
  • Work with the organization’s accountant and treasurer to manage organizational spending
  • Monitor budget compliance and mitigate financial risks
  • Ensure that goals of inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers are met

Skills Required

  • 5+ years of experience in a nonprofit leadership position and managing staff
  • Demonstrated track record in personally asking for and securing gifts of $10,000+
  • Experience with program evaluation and metrics
  • Commitment to staff development
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining community partnerships
  • Must demonstrate a high level of intelligence and intellectual curiosity and desire to explore new ideas and innovative, entrepreneurial approaches to solving problems
