Description

Light House Studio is an award-winning nonprofit filmmaking center for children and teens (ages 8-18) located in Charlottesville, VA that teaches self-expression through the art of film. We value connecting our community by way of storytelling, whether that’s teaching filmmaking at schools and community centers, partnering with other organizations to share their stories, or bringing people together to watch movies at Vinegar Hill Theatre. Since 1999, we have helped young filmmakers create thousands of dramatic, animated, and documentary films. We hold approximately 155 workshops every year, teaching over 1,000 children annually. Job Duties

  • Develop curricula and coordinate schedules for tuition-based and non-tuition-based programs including summer camps, special skills workshops, and community outreach. Collaborate with Executive Director and Managing Director to evaluate and refine program effectiveness.
  • Serve as primary instructor for the majority of Light House programs.
  • Ensure effective selection, training, and support of Light House mentors and other volunteers. Prepare workshops with other Mentors. Manage and evaluate Mentor performance. Liaise with Managing Director to hire mentors for new programs.
  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade equipment including, but not limited to, cameras, lights, microphones, computers, and software.
  • Promote Light House programs by visiting schools and attending community events.
  • Create video content for marketing purposes.

Skills Required

  • Five years’ professional experience in video/film production, including specialization in one or more of the following (documentary, animation, or narrative filmmaking).
  • Holds a relevant bachelor of fine arts or master of fine arts degree (film/video or related field). Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experienced operator of consumer, prosumer, and professional sound, video, and lighting equipment.
  • Proficiency with industry standard software including FCPX, Premiere, and Photoshop. After Effects and Illustrator preferred.
