Overview The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond (BGCMR) is conducting a search for a full time, supervisory Controller to design, implementation and monitoring of sound financial practices, internal controls, effective financial reporting processes and regulatory compliance of a $3.3M budget to ensure the continued financial integrity and viability of its mission. Other BGCMR projects, as needed. Reports to the COO. BGCMR’s mission is to empower young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to succeed in life. Learn more at www.bgcmr.org. Summary of Job Responsibilities and Requirements
  • This roll up your sleeves Controller, leads and supervises staff including a full-time accountant and part time accounting clerk through effective communications, coaching, training and development. Manages staff with a combined approach of collaboration and accountability against established performance goals.
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of accounting records to ensure the proper recording, measuring and reporting of all operations, assets, liabilities and transactions of BGCMR in accordance with the organization’s internal accounting policies and generally accepted principals.
  • Production of internal financial statements, reports and supporting data for review by management, volunteer committees and the Board of Directors.
  • Development, documentation, communication, implementation, maintenance and ongoing evaluation of an effective system of internal controls, financial practices and procedures including the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, finance and treasury functions of BGCMR. Such internal controls, practices and procedures are to be designed to ensure the recording of all transactions and reporting of financial information, as well as to safeguard the assets of BGCMR and protect against fraudulent financial reporting.
  • Development of the annual budget for BGCMR including related planning, documentation, training and reviewing aspects of the budgeting process.
  • Management of the annual external audit to ensure the integrity of information and records and the production of financial statements of BGCMR in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Cooperate with and assist the auditors including the provision of information requested by the auditors.
  • Performs additional responsibilities related to the success of the organization.
Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in related area; certification as a Certified Public Accountant (past or present) is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years in Accounting and/or Finance with progressive organizational / business support and leadership experience including staff supervision.
  • Fund and non-profit accounting or social services experience highly desirable!
  • Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with automated systems, especially accounting software, such as Sage Intacct, and payroll systems including system implementation and integration experience.
  • Effective and proactive leadership, team communication, facilitation, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Evidences the highest level of ethical behavior and practice; able to generate trust among colleagues, staff, leaders and Board.
  • Strong general ledger accounting and financial reporting skills.
  • Ability to analyze and understand of transactional detail and summarize information for use by non-accounting information users.
  • Written and oral communication proficiency.
  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with some schedule flexibility.
  • Minimal travel.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment background screening.
